Posterboy interpellé/ Posterboy arrested

La Vandal Squad du métro new yorkais vient de nous rappeler qu’elle était toujours sur les rangs en interpellant celui qu’on appelle Posterboy pendant le Festival “Friends We Love” du 30 janvier à New York.

Quelques jours auparavant, Le duo de “Friends we Love” Moni Pineda et Mike Vargas, publiaient sur leur site une vidéo sur ce mysterieux Posterboy, ce type qui s’amuse à détourner les affiches publicitaires du métro (je précise que les publicités là bas sont adhésives, elles sont donc repositionnables, pas comme à Paris). Armé de son cutter, il taille des bouts précis des pubs et les recolle à sa guise, remixant les propos originaux en messages bien conscients ou ironiques. Pour beaucoup, il fait partie de ces street-artistes qui partagent leur point de vue sur notre société de consommation mais pour la NYPD, c’est du vandalisme et tout le monde sait que les vandales doivent être réprimés!

Jusqu’à présent, Vandal Squad n’avait aucun élément concernant l’identité de Posterboy, ils se sont donc fiés au flyer du Festival mentionnant sa présence et le jour J. lIs arrêtèrent un certain Henry Matyjewicz de Bushwick, 27 ans. Le lundi matin il était relâché sans doute parce qu’ils n’avaient finalement aucune preuve qu’il soit le bon candidat.

New York Police Transit Department just remind us that they were still in the game by arresting this artist called Posterboy at Friends We Love Festival, January 30th.

Few days ago, Friends We Love’s duo Moni Pineda and Mike Vargas published a short footage about this mysterious Posterboy on their website. The guy actually “hacks” advertisings in the subway by using an exacto knife to rearrange and remix the original messages into conscious or ironic ones.  (I have to specify that advertising posters in NY are just like stickers, it’s totally different in Paris)

For most of the people, he’s just another street artist who shares his opinion about that consumerist society but for the NYPD it’s just vandalism. And everybody knows that vandalism has to be punished! As the Vandal Squad didn’t have any documents proving his identity, they just took notes on the event’s flyer on which was written that “Posterboy” will make an appearancy.

The D-day they arrested a certain Henry Matyjewicz, 27, living in Bushwick but the guy got out monday morning probably because they didn’t have any charges.
