The Get By: Making it on the Streets of NYC (How To Make It In America)

HBO continue d’arpenter les rues de New York en mettant en scène le quotidien de skaters pro dans le but de faire la promo de leur dernière série « How To Make It In America ». Quelques semaines plus tôt, ils sortaient « Legend of Wilfredo Gomez » ou le who’s who des plus brilliants skaters.

Cette semaine est marquée par la sortie de « The Get By: Making it on the Streets of NYC. » Ce nouveau documentaire  dépeint la vie des skaters new yorkais dans leur lutte quotidienne pour accéder au plus haut niveau. Coup de projecteur donc sur Jake Johnson, Gino Iannucci, Black Rob, Anthony Pappalardo et Jahmal Williams. Rarement exposés, ces skaters sont pourtant très demandés parce que considérés comme étant la crème de la crème. HBO délivre là, un autre bijou en images avec ces poids lourds de l’underground du skate.

HBO continues to hit the streets of New York documenting the lives of pro skateboarders in order to help promote their new series « How to Make It in America. » A few weeks back they released the « Legend of Wilfredo Gomez » video, which featured a who’s who of the most talented skaters around. This week marks the release of « The Get By: Making it on the Streets of NYC. » The new documentary that chronicles the lives of New York City skaters, and their struggle to hustle their way through the Big Apple and make it to the top of the skateboarding world. The highlights feature Jake Johnson, Gino Iannucci, Black Rob, Anthony Pappalardo, and Jahmal Williams. All these skaters are considered the best of the best and are in high demand and rarely seen on film. HBO has delivered another gem with this group of underground heavyweights.

Phenomenal Woman, Maya Angelou

Dimanche, habituellement journée loose, je reçois un petit rayon de soleil par email.
J’aurai préféré une bonne vieille lettre manuscrite mais génération 2.0 slash 10 oblige, c’est ce poème de Maya Angelou qui est arrivé sur ma boite gmail.
Une courte note l’accompagnait : « Tu aurais pu l’écrire celui-ci ».
Je trouve le geste tellement bien venu et le poème tellement puissant en cette période de « restructuration/questionnement »  sur ma petite personne que je tenais à partager.

Alianza, The Mac & Retna (Upper Playground/ Gingko Press)

Dernière parution chez l’excellent éditeur Gingko Press en association avec Upper Playground, « Alianza » est trop petit pour contenir la grandeur des œuvres de Mac et Retna.

3 chapitres, 2 styles totalement différents mais complémentaires, 6 ans de collaboration compilés en 96 pages et autant de toiles et de murs recouverts à travers le monde. El Mac, portraitiste et Retna, calli-graff ont trouvé la formule pour donner une plus value à leurs travaux respectifs.

Quand le premier est plus proche du photoréalisme que du graff vandale, le second emprunte aux hiéroglyphes égyptiens ou mayas. La fusion des deux donne des œuvres d’art époustouflantes qui paraissent sortir d’un jeu vidéo en 3D. Retna et son travail de typographie, qui à certains égards nous rappelle la pixaçao de Sao Paulo, met parfaitement en relief les portraits bichromiques de Mac.

Alianza est définitivement un beau livre néanmoins, il suscite un poil de frustration par son format. Pour suivre les aventures de ces fils spirituels des muralistes mexicains, rendez vous sur leurs sites web respectifs, histoire de continuer le rêve.
